New Theme – New Questions February 24, 2009

Ahhh… Tuesday.  I love you because you aren’t Monday or Wednesday.  I love you because you do not weigh me down with a ton of mail when I do my morning errands.  I love you because you are nothing but yourself.

Now that my ‘Ode to Tuesday’ is done, I can get back to what I was doing.  Waiting for lunchtime.  I had my typical breakfast this morning and realized that I need to buy more ingredients for the quiche cups I so love in the morning.  This time – foil cups.  Though the paper doesn’t work too badly.  I even boiled some eggs last night, so I have a new snack – not that I don’t love the String Cheese!  But a change of pace is always nice.  For lunch, we have sirloin tips with mushrooms and broccoli.  I’m excited.  It’s a wonder what you’ll eat when hungry!

Okay, so I changed my theme, which I like a lot.  I just can’t seem to figure out how to get the header changed.  I would also like to add some things to the sidebar, but – unlike using the WordPress blogs from wordpress.org, it doesn’t seem as easy to customize.  Are html codes able to be used?  Or am I limited to the widgets available per the theme?

I have a book that I purchased a while back when I tried to use WP the first time, WordPress for Dummies, by Lisa Sabin-Wilson so I am going to have to dig that out and read it over a few more times.  Though it focuses on the self-hosted blogs, there are parts that deal with the .com versions.  I’m hoping it can help me out!  People on Twitter are pretty good about answering some of the questions I have, too – which is nice!  It’s like my own online help desk.

With that, I am going to go do a little more WordPress research (and blogging in general) while I can before heading back to work and my oh-so-not-busy-afternoon.

Wednesdays – Not My Favorite February 18, 2009

I guess it’s just because it’s the middle of the week and nothing ever really happens.  Everyone is just waiting for the weekend and Wednesday just happens to be in the middle…

So..  last night I was on my Twitter account (via the laptop – the PC is still dead to me.  However, it may rise again after some butt whoopin’ tonight from a friend of mine!) and I follow Felicia Day – part of a great web series called The Guild.  For the WoW addicts out there, this is such a great show.  If you haven’t seen it – SEE IT!  You can find it on the Zune and Xbox 360 Marketplaces or online.

Anyway, I saw a tweet from Felicia Day about a season two cast party being broadcast on Ustream.  I was really very excited until I learned that it was going to be broadcasting on Pacific time.  ::insert frown here::  I’m definitely a night person, but during the week, I’m usually in bed by about 10 or 10:30 and asleep soon after.  (yes, I guess you could call me a wuss..)  So, as cool as it should have been to see the cast of the Guild live (well..  virtually live), I punked out and fell asleep.

Stupid early mornings.

However, last night I also went to an informational meeting for a local running club that will be starting at the end of the month.  The woman who spoke had to have been pretty young, but she was really excited about the club and what it does.  Basically, the beginner program helps people to start training for a marathon (or a half marathon, 10K, 5K, whatever!) by doing the walk/run thing in the beginning and gradually working up to 3 or 4 miles non stop!  Then, you can merge into the training program for the marathon.  It’s kind of neat, though I have never really been a runner.  I’m going to try it and get myself all psyched up for it…  I hope!

Oh, and today, I brought in a chicken and eggplant casserole – everyone is loving it!  I am so excited!  And here I thought cooking wasn’t in my genes…  I guess I was wrong.  Yeay!

South Beach Day 2 February 17, 2009

First off, let me state that I am very proud of myself for being able to go out to dinner last night and behave on the South Beach Diet!

I had a couple of mushroom caps – minus the stuffing (which was SOO Hard for me!  It smelled scrumptious!), a tossed salad with oil & vinegar (I picked off the carrots), a New York strip steak and veggies.

I am really pleased that I didn’t even touch the bread that was brought to the table!  Although, I *did* ask my fiance to describe each and every bite.  That lasted for one bite.

It is just not easy for me to turn down bread; Especially warm, crusty outside, soft and buttery inside, good old fashioned bread…

So today, I had the usual breakfast – the quiche cup and a slice of turkey and for a snack – the mozzarella string cheese.  For lunch, we have green pepper cups stuffed with cottage cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers and a little side salad (lettuce and cukes).  I’m loking forward to it because I’m beginning to get hungry!

I think for dinner I will cook the chicken in my fridge.  It needs to be cooked and soon!

ON a different note!!!  The computer work is at a stand still until I can get my friend from Atlanta, or my fiance’s brother in law – also from the Atlanta area, on the phone to determine what the problem is or could be.  I just hate that the Vista DVD won’t even read!  That was probably the last thing I could do on my own that wouldn’t make  me think I have completely killed my system.

I wish I could fix it myself, but that is just not possible when it comes to the programming and such.  Or corrupted files.  How do I figure out what file is corrupted, how it got that way, and how to go about fixing it?  Yikes!  I have got to hand it to those Computer Technicians out there that really know what they are doing!  As for the people that came out to my house – they need some extra schooling, in my opinion.

Hopefully my laptop will still be going when I get home so I can tweak my blog a bit.  I have put a couple links on Twitter over the past couple of days, to drum up some visits and some contsructive criticsim, but nothing much has happened yet…  If you see anything that you would like to comment on, or just remark upon, I would be greatful!  I don’t bite.. often.   =)

South Beach Diet ReStart February 16, 2009

My first attempt at this South Beach Diet thing was last monday.  It started out pretty well, but quickly fell to pieces when my friends decided to go out for a couple of beers.  (Yeah, I’m a beer girl.)

So, I – as some dieters do – chalked the week up to a wash and focused on starting today.  I did my best to keep away from the breads (in fact, I haven’t had any since last week, which is great!) and potatoes, and anything else that was kind of high in the carb department.  I stayed away from the Valentine’s Day candies for most of Friday (when the office cupids hit us with the message hearts, chocolates and lollipops).  So Saturday and yesterday were all for me.

I ate what I wanted, drank what I wanted and had a Mardi Gras of my own!  Well, minus the boobs and beads….

Anyway, today I have been fantastic!  I had my breakfast of a piece of turkey meat and a quiche cup (Delish!), and for lunch some eggplant stuffed with beef and a hard boiled egg.  I think I may eat a string cheese when I am done with this post, but for now, I’m okay.

When I get home, I am either going to make some chicken to eat with some veggies, or take one of the beef stuffed eggplants home for dinner!  However, I should probably do the chicken thing, since the future hubby needs to eat too.  I guess.  I wish he would diet with me, but I can’t force him.  I can only cook and hope he likes what is put in front of him.

But as of right now – 4:15 pm EST, I am feeling great!  No hunger pangs, no cravings, nothing!  Yee haw!

Let’s see if it lasts when I go home and try to fix my computer.  THAT is the true test….
