PhotobucketBy now, I am sure you have heard of, if not joined, Darren Rowse’s new challenge.  Well, I am under the assumption that it is a ‘challege’ – but more of a personal one.  The point is to spend 31 days building a better blog.  Beginning on April 1st, Darren will be sending out hints and suggestions on what to do to make your blog better!

I know that he has done things like this in the past, but I was not into blogging then, so I am very excited about this opportunity!  If you are interested, you can sign up here.  I did this last night.  I got an email with a confirmation link, and that was it.

I hope that it helps me out, because as you might be able to tell – I need it!  I don’t plan on using this particular blog to make money or anything, but I would like to start a money-making blog somewhere in the near future!  This could be the stepping stone I need!  Wish me luck!

Wedding Planning Begins March 24, 2009

Wedding Rings
Wedding rings found through Google Images

As I may have mentioned in the past, I have been engaged since last April.  The proposal was completely unexpected, and not very romantic – but it suited the moment, if that makes sense.  My then-boyfriend had just gotten through with an interview to become a manager at a local restaurant.  He had gotten the job and we went out on the town to celebrate.  On our way home, we stopped at a gas station/convenience store and before we got in, he turned around, got on one knee and asked me to marry him.  I was shocked, but the tears came almost instantly.  It was definitely NOT how I had pictured it… Heck, he didn’t even have the ring with him at the time!  He later told me that he just felt that the moment was right and if he didn’t do it, he was going to lose me.

I *did* get the ring when we got home – and it’s really quite lovely!

So, we finally set a date for August of this year, and we decided on going to Las Vegas.  I know that both of our parents will be a little disappointed, but when it comes down to it, it’s not their decision.  Besides, we will be using the services of a Priest, so they should be happy with that.  It’s just that churches are so very expensive  if you are not a part of the diocese…  We had found a great church in St. Augustine, but it was going to be upwards of $2,500 since neither of us were members…  Forget that!

Now, seeing as how I have never been to Vegas, I am completely overwhelmed by all of the options out there!  Chapels, churches, gazebos, helicopters, weddings with Elvis or Buddy Holly, the list goes on and on…

I have been looking for thoughts and ideas though The Knot – which is  a pretty great website for the engaged and the newly wed!  There are checklists, blogs, honeymoon ideas, links to printers, caterers, wedding planners… I was thrilled to have come across it!  It helped me realize that there are a ton of details that I didn’t even think about!

There is so much for me to write/vent about my wedding, so I am sure there will be a lot more posts regarding it.  If I can figure it out, somewhere down the line I may try to move the posts to a separate page, as to not overload anyone with stuff they don’t really care to read or scan through!  Isn’t that nice of me?  I thought so!   =)

A Little Link Love for Friday March 20, 2009

I don’t have much time to post anything to in depths right now, but I will later.  However, I was strolling through the blogosphere and found a really cool blog by a gentleman named Larry Fire (I believe that’s his name).  The blog is titled Fire Wire and what caught my attention was his post about the Marvel character, Wolverine.

I am not a *huge* comic book fan, but the X-Men movies are some of my favorites, and come on, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine?  Who wouldn’t fall in love with the character??  Anyway, apparently there are going to be pictures released throughout April, focusing in Wolverine.  What’s the big deal?  They are going to be drawn/ painted in the style of some very famous artists – Salvador Dali, Van Gogh, etc…

It’s a really cool post, and the artwork is just fantastic!  I have subscribed to his feed and look forward to reading more of his previous posts.  I am a big fan of blogs that I can relate to.  I know, that sounds obvious, but I had to point it out.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! March 17, 2009

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!  I hope that the Luck of the Irish befalls on every one of you on this happiest of holidays.

You know, I’m not Irish, and I really don’t know much about St. Patrick’s Day, but I always have such a good time on this particular holiday.  Not because it’s an excuse to get a few beers in me, or drink/eat/wear green stuff..  More likely it’s because I enjoy listening to bands like, Drop Kick Murphys or Flogging Molly and watching other non-Irish folk act like that…

Being from the Boston area, St. Patrick’s day was always a huge deal – no matter what day of the week it fell upon.  I remember taking a day off (I think it was a Tuesday) to go see the parade and get pretty lit…   You should have seen the crowds out there!  It could be 60 degrees, or 40, and it wouldn’t matter.  The streets would be lined with folks donning their green, yards of emerald beer in one hand, and some sort of noisemaker in the other…  It was fantastic.  It didn’t hurt that there were (still are) Irish pubs and bars and clubs *all* over the place, so stumbling from one to the next was never very hard.

It was always a great time, and you got to meet lots of people that you normally wouldn’t, and sometimes see people you had lost touch with.   So, with that all said, I hope that all of you have a Wonderful St. Patty’s Day.  Stay Safe and Erin go Bragh!!

Peace River Camping March 12, 2009

This weekend, I am going camping for the first time in probably close to fifteen years.  From what I remember of that trip, which was also to Peace River, it was a lot of fun.  However, we had around twenty people and we drank a *lot* of beer!  Ahh.. those were some good ol’ college days…  I love you, University of Miami!   ::insert cheesy 90’s flashbacks here::

Anyway, we are going to wake up at about 4:30 am or so, to be on the road to Peace River in Arcadia, Florida.  I am pretty excited, but a little worried.  I have heard that the trees have a lot of spiders in them, and if/ when you hit the branches, they fall into the canoe.

Let me say this, I HATE spiders more than words can describe.

I am hoping that we are going to be able to steer the canoe well enough so that nothing like that happens, but we’ll see!

There are only going to be five of us, which will be nice, but I was hoping more people would go.  As they say, ‘the more, the merrier’ right?  I am sure it will be nice and peaceful.  Maybe I’ll bring a book.  I am definitely going to bring my camera!  I’ll have to post the pictures when we get back.

We have to go shopping for beer and some other small supplies when I get home tonight.  Not looking forward to that WalMart trip, but whatever.. It will still be an early night for me!  If I can get to bed by about 10, I’ll be good for the drive.  Or, I’ll just sleep in the car…  I haven’t yet decided.  Wish me luck!

EDIT: I know, it’s been a few days, but I will be posting on my trip shortly!  I had to recover from quite a few ant bites, a sunburn and lack of sleep.  But FEAR NOT! The post will be up by the end of the week!  Thanks for your patience.

Bike Week Ends in Daytona March 11, 2009

This was the Loin Cloth Lady

This was the Loin Cloth Lady

My last post was about Bike Week…  I did end up going to Main Street, and it was FUN!

Although, there were some strange people…  Not that I’m shocked.  This lady seemed to be EVERYWHERE we were.  That wasn’t a bad thing.  She was very nice from what I could tell, and had a lot of people want to take pictures of her and everything.

I did not find my Skull airbrushed bike, but I found a couple of others that I will post, AND a cute helmet that I wore for the first time last night!  It’s a DOT approved helemet with a Skull on the front.   Sure, that’s not all that much to talk about, but it had blonde pigtails with pink bows on it, AND angel wings!  Could it BE more perfect?

I will post a pic of it once I get a good one.   The ones I have taken have been crappy so far.

There were some great cover bands out there, which made for some fun times..  The food.. wow..  Have you ever had a Pork Parfait?  Me neither!  But they had them there!  And some of the BEST Brisket cuts I have ever seen.. Well, maybe not the best, but certainly the largest!

The wet tee shirt contests were lacking (and this coming from a girl!) to say the best.  It was on the chilly side, so I couldn’t throw blame.

I am angry that I haven’t been able to post more this week.  The Full Moon really threw me off!  Seriously, if you are not a believer in that, I understand.  I have *always* been affected, and it just happens that this cycle has been no different.  Tomorrow, I have the work computer to myself,  so I plan on putting at LEAST two blog posts up (probably having one to post on Friday and/or Saturday to make up for the week)…

Have a great night people!
