Spring Cleaning – It's Time February 27, 2009

I am by no means a messy person. I’m not the sharpest crease on the napkin, but my home is not a pig sty. However, I tend to get ‘ostrich syndrome’ when it comes to paperwork and money. I’m not exactly ‘afraid’ of money, but I’m not the best at handling it. I am definitely trying, and sites like Wesabe help when I get around to using them, but that’s my issue and the cause of my stress.

I wish that parents, if not schools, would teach their children about money.  My parents taught me the value of it, for which I am grateful, but not how to actually work with it.  At one point, one teacher in middle school taught the class how to write a check, but not how to balance a checkbook.  Do people even do that anymore?  With everything so easily done with a debit card, I haven’t entered anything in my checkbook since the account opened…  Sad, I know.

I used to use Quicken, which was good.  However, I uninstalled it at one point and apparrently there was some sort of ‘fatal error’ during the process.  What does this mean?  Hell if I know, but it will now not allow me to reinstall the software.  Of course, I have gotten no response from the Intuit company on how this can be fixed, but I’m not surprised.

What I am planning on doing this weekend (being the first of yet another month) is do a complete update on all of my bills and checking/savings accounts, and whatnot.  I need to put it into some sort of spreadsheet or file or something that can be easily read, retrieved and makes sense.  I will have to browse the Wesabe site some more to see if there have been any new ideas posted that can help me out.  Are there any other good, online based money handling sites?

I may even take a look at some of the local colleges to see if maybe they have some sort of class or seminar that I could take to help me get started.  It’s really rather overwhelming!  I am open to hearing any ideas that may be floating around out there.  So, if you know of anything, pass it on!  Even if it doesn’t fit my personal situation, it could help someone else!

Dairy Queen Rocks the Web! February 26, 2009

I love a good contest…   And this one is a good one, in my opinion!

DQ is doing it’s thing and asking people to state their best combo for their new Value Menu!!  Personally, I would love the Cheeseburger (or Hot Dog), the Medium Drink and the Side Salad for FOUR BUCKS!!!  After all, 4$ Isn’t all that much for a great lunch!  PLUS, you can get another item for a dollar more!  NICE!

So, if any of you care to join this contest, visit the Dairy Queen site and put in your two cents!

Is Order All That Hard to Keep?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Daria @ 2:44 am

I love projects, I really do. But when an attorney asks me to look for specific records on specific dates, is it so hard to ask their secretaries to keep the files in some sort of order? I have four files full of pleadings and MAYBE 60% is in chronological order. However, some of the stuff isn’t even in the file! This 10 day project is actually going to take 10 Days!! Unheard of!

New Theme – New Questions February 24, 2009

Ahhh… Tuesday.  I love you because you aren’t Monday or Wednesday.  I love you because you do not weigh me down with a ton of mail when I do my morning errands.  I love you because you are nothing but yourself.

Now that my ‘Ode to Tuesday’ is done, I can get back to what I was doing.  Waiting for lunchtime.  I had my typical breakfast this morning and realized that I need to buy more ingredients for the quiche cups I so love in the morning.  This time – foil cups.  Though the paper doesn’t work too badly.  I even boiled some eggs last night, so I have a new snack – not that I don’t love the String Cheese!  But a change of pace is always nice.  For lunch, we have sirloin tips with mushrooms and broccoli.  I’m excited.  It’s a wonder what you’ll eat when hungry!

Okay, so I changed my theme, which I like a lot.  I just can’t seem to figure out how to get the header changed.  I would also like to add some things to the sidebar, but – unlike using the WordPress blogs from wordpress.org, it doesn’t seem as easy to customize.  Are html codes able to be used?  Or am I limited to the widgets available per the theme?

I have a book that I purchased a while back when I tried to use WP the first time, WordPress for Dummies, by Lisa Sabin-Wilson so I am going to have to dig that out and read it over a few more times.  Though it focuses on the self-hosted blogs, there are parts that deal with the .com versions.  I’m hoping it can help me out!  People on Twitter are pretty good about answering some of the questions I have, too – which is nice!  It’s like my own online help desk.

With that, I am going to go do a little more WordPress research (and blogging in general) while I can before heading back to work and my oh-so-not-busy-afternoon.

Monday Morning… Again February 23, 2009

Good day!

After a relaxing and productive weekend, it is again, Monday.  As usual, I have high hopes for the week!  My running club begins on Saturday, so I am going to try to prepare for it for the next five evenings.

The diet is back on track after a weekend dip.  At least, I think it is.  For breakfast I did the usual – turkey meat and quiche cup.  However, the lunch for today is a chicken salad on romaine.  That’s fine and dandy, but she made it with sour cream instead of mayo.  Now, I know that mayo should be limited, but I can’t find any info on the sour cream…  But I figure I will just eat it and  keep on track for the rest of the day and hope for the best.

I spoke with the future brother in law in law and yes, I know I wrote that twice.  It’s the brother in law of my fiance.  I know, it makes no difference in his relationship to me, but it’s fun to say!  So, I spoke with him while he and his family were in ‘Nawlins’ for Mardi Gras (lucky bas.. guy), and he told me that he has a disk that I can borrow that may be able to fix my computer.  I am hoping to High Heaven that it works.  I feel like I’m wasting my new 20″ flat screen on games that are not World of Warcraft.

I actually found my edition of The Temple of Elemental Evil and installed that yesterday to get a fix on some sort of gaming.  It wasn’t the same.  And it took me forever to remember just how to play it!  I still don’t have everything down…

But at least I have my laptop and my phone.  It’s nice to be able to twitter and post things to Facebook while waiting in the bank line.  I swear, if I had an iPhone, it would never be torn from my hands!

OH! On a final note, I believe that the fiance and I have finally set a date to be wed!  Provided the church is available, and the Priest that we want to officiate the ceremony is willing, August 22nd will be the goal date!

I almost had him for a Halloween wedding, which would have been cool because we could celebrate my sister’s birthday, have the wedding, go on our honeymoon, and celebrate MY birthday – all in the same week!  But then again, it’s enough stress with just the wedding…  YEAY!!!

Scribefire Attempt Failed February 20, 2009

Yesterday, while I was stuck home without a car to get to work with, I decided to try to be as productive as I could be.

I got my laptop all set up, turned on the television and stumbled through some websites.  When I checked my Twitter account, I saw a post from @BlueFur about 10 Helpful SEO Tips for Bloggers.  Since I am new to the blogging thing, I gave it a look and thought it was fantastic.  So, I wanted to post about it.

I did the right click and chose Scribefire and ‘Blog this Page’.  It seemed to be going fine.  I wrote my post, published it, and (my own fault) failed to check to make sure it actually posted to my blog.

It didn’t.

I learned that this morning when I gave it a look see.  Ahh well, the blog post is still relavent, and a great help!  I’m liking this BlueFur person!  I guess this weekend I will have to give Scribefire another shot to see what I may have done wrong.

Hey, I just learned that today is National Margarita Day!  Thanks BlogThings!
